Example projects:
Mapping and Wayfinding - Meroo National Park
I create clear, accessible visitor maps from supplied ArcGIS PDFs and other spatial informatio, transforming complex geographic data into clear, accessible graphics. Working under the direction of The Interpretive Design Company, I separate and organise mapping layers, refine geographic features and apply visual hierarchy, labels, symbols, colours and typography. Each map must balance geographic accuracy with the practical needs of visitors navigating unfamiliar places.
Client and date
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service - 2026
Brief
Create a clear, accessible visitor map that helps people understand the site, locate key facilities and navigate tracks or destinations confidently. The map needed to bring together complex spatial information within TIDC’s established visual and cartographic standards.
My role
I developed the map under the direction of The Interpretive Design Company. I separated the data contained in a supplied ArcGIS map PDF into layers in Adobe Illustrator, then refined the artwork by establishing a clear visual hierarchy, drawing and adjusting map features, positioning labels and applying symbols, colours and typography. I also checked the artwork for consistency, legibility and production accuracy before it progressed to finalisation.
Software used
Adobe Illustrator · Adobe InDesign · Adobe Photoshop
What I learned and solved
This project strengthened my ability to transform detailed geographic information into a map that visitors can understand quickly. I learned to balance accuracy with visual simplicity, distinguish different levels of information and maintain clarity across tracks, boundaries, facilities, labels and symbols. I also developed stronger production and quality-control skills while working within an established professional design system.
Graphic Design - Environmental Conference posters
Client
NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water - 2026
Project
Five full-colour A0 educational posters for a departmental conference
Brief
TIDC was commissioned to design a coordinated series of large-format posters for a NSW DCCEEW conference. The five posters needed to communicate detailed information clearly, establish a consistent visual identity and remain engaging and legible within a busy conference environment. The project included layout design, minor text editing and the preparation of drafts for client review.
My role
I developed the initial poster designs under the direction of The Interpretive Design Company. Working with supplied text, images and project information, I explored layout options, organised the content into a clear visual hierarchy and applied typography, colour and graphic elements consistently across the series.
I incorporated feedback through successive drafts and prepared the artwork for large-format production. TIDC’s senior designers provided creative direction, quality control and final design refinement before the five posters were approved and delivered to the client.
What I learned
This project strengthened my ability to manage detailed content across a coordinated series while maintaining consistency and visual interest. Designing at A0 scale also required careful consideration of viewing distance, text size, image quality and the way conference visitors scan information while moving through a space.
